Reports last week indicate construction starts are back to pre-lockdown levels with data suggesting that 2021 is going to be a good year for construction, great news for the industry!

News Round-up
In the South East, plans have been revealed for ‘UK’s largest’ film studio in London. Construction work has begun on a new industrial park in Tottenham which is aiming to become the greenest development of its kind. A planning application with Havering Council for a £400m residential-led regeneration scheme close to the Crossrail station in Romford, Essex has been submitted. A new offsite office for the Imperial War Museum has completed, the new building, called Parkside, has been built on Austral Street in Southwark. Piling work has begun on North London Waste Authority’s £100m EcoPark South project. £20m plans to revamp a theatre in Hertfordshire have been given the green light by the local council. A deal to deliver the first homes at £500m scheme ‘Oxford North’, the new life sciences district for the university city has been secured. Highways England has shortlisted an international line-up of contractors for the £2bn Lower Thames Crossing tunnel drive to connect Essex with Kent.
In the Midlands, a regeneration scheme that could overhaul Dudley Town Centre has moved a step closer, the redevelopment of the Portersfield site is proposed to cost £82m but promises to see 347 residential units, 200 student digs, up to 10,000 square feet of retail and leisure space as well as a 38,000 square feet Ice Rink Centre. Homes England have submitted plans to build 762 apartments on land around the proposed High Speed 2 station in Birmingham. Keele University has signed a £10m design and build contract with for its seventh Innovation Centre building.
In the North West, a total of 225 homes across three developments plus a mobility hub, with parking for 400 vehicles and 150 bikes, make up proposals have been submitted by Manchester City Council, Manchester Life and Great Places Housing Group. In Liverpool, plans to transform a rundown site on Liverpool’s Regent Road into a boutique hotel have advanced. In Preston, ambitious plans to make the Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library a world-class cultural attraction and community hub for the 21st century are to go ahead.
In Yorkshire, a decision on the controversial £150m development plan for Leeds Bradford Airport has been delayed to give Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick further time to consider the proposal.
